Creating Sydney’s Wedding Day Makeup
Every bride I work with is important to me, and every wedding day is an honor to be part of. But this bride was different. This bride was my daughter, Sydney.

As a makeup artist, I wanted the same thing for Sydney that I want for every bride who sits in my chair. I wanted her to feel beautiful, confident, comfortable, and completely like herself. Her wedding day was about her, so I put my own emotions aside and focused on creating the makeup look she wanted.
We did her makeup trial before the wedding, which gave us the opportunity to perfect her look and have a plan in place before the big day. It also gave me one of those moments I will always remember. Sitting across from my daughter and doing her makeup, I could not help but see the little girl I raised and the beautiful woman she had become. Knowing I would be the one getting her ready to walk down the aisle made the experience incredibly meaningful.
For her wedding day, I chose airbrush makeup because I wanted her skin to look polished and beautiful while still looking like Sydney. That is always my goal with bridal makeup. I want the makeup to photograph beautifully, last through the emotions and celebrations of the day, and still allow the bride to recognize herself when she looks in the mirror.
The morning was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of special moments. I had the pleasure of doing makeup for Sydney’s best friend, Colleen, as well as my future daughter in law, Ashleigh. I even managed to find time to do my own makeup with my airbrush and my sister’s makeup.
One thing this wedding reminded me of is just how quickly wedding morning goes. Having Sydney’s makeup planned and perfected ahead of time allowed us to enjoy the morning instead of rushing through it. I always encourage my brides to give themselves plenty of time for makeup so they can sit, breathe, laugh, take photos, and enjoy the people around them. Your wedding morning is part of your wedding day, and you deserve to experience it.
When I finally stepped back and looked at Sydney, I saw my daughter. Beautiful, happy, and ready for the next chapter of her life. For a moment, I was not thinking about makeup or timelines. I was simply her mom, taking in a moment I had dreamed about for years.
Being Sydney’s makeup artist was an honor, but being her mother on that day was the greatest privilege of all.
And it reminded me exactly why I love what I do. Makeup is not just about creating a beautiful look. It is about giving a bride confidence, removing one more thing from her list of worries, and helping her feel completely herself as she steps into one of the most important moments of her life.
That is what I wanted for Sydney.
And that is what I want for every bride who sits in my chair.
